LOEWS ROYAL PACIFIC RESORT AT UNIVERSAL ORLANDO CELEBRATES ORLANDO’S ‘EAT LOCAL WEEK’ AS PART OF COMPANY’S ADOPT-A-FARMER PROGRAM
Restaurant Dishes Showcase Ingredients from Central Florida Farmers and Ranchers
Orlando, FL – January 20, 2010 – Chefs at Loews Royal Pacific Resort are celebrating the bounty of Central Florida with a special menu designed for Slow Food Orlando’s first ‘Eat Local Week’ January 25 – 31. The concept of sourcing and buying food items that are grown and raised in the local area is a mandate at Loews Hotels. Its Adopt-a-Farmer program supports partnerships with area farmers, fishermen and independent purveyors. “Our company launched a brand-wide program to support local farms in the communities where we own and operate hotels,” says Executive Chef Nando Belmonte of Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando. “The best part is, it not only benefits farmers in Central Florida, but locals and out-of-town visitors who dine with us enjoy fresh, flavorful and environmentally-friendly dishes.”
The Slow Food movement is a way of living and a way of eating that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment. Its goal is to build awareness of local food and farmers and promote a re-connection with family and friends around the dinner table.
From January 25 – 31, Islands Dining Room at Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando will offer a three-course prix fixe menu that features:
- Tempura Surf and Turf Roll – with Deep Creek grass-fed beef, Port Canaveral Ruby Red Shrimp and Thai Sticky Rice with Malaysian Coconut Aioli and Kung Pao Drizzle. (Local purveyors include Deep Creek Livestock in DeLand and Seafood Connections in Titusville.)
- Crispy Palmetto Creek Pork and Maitake Mushroom Dumplings – with Heart of Christmas Farms Tatsoi Salad, Pickled Mangoes, Yuzu Jalapeno Emulsion and Tamarind Reduction (Local purveyors include Palmetto Creek Farm in Avon Park and Hearts of Christmas Farms in Christmas.)
- Dynamite Crab Crusted Port Canaveral Golden Tile Fish – with Edamame Risotto, Wilted Local Mustard Greens, Togorashi Miso Butter Sauce and Shiso Oil (Local purveyors include Seafood Connections in Titusville and Hearts of Christmas Farms in Christmas.)
The special ‘Eat Local Week’ dinner menu will be offered nightly January 25 – 31 from 5:00 – 10:00 pm in Islands Dining Room for $45 for all three courses, or guests may choose individual items at the a la carte price. As part of Loews Hotels’ Adopt-a-Farmer program, the hotel consistently features specific dishes with locally grown and raised ingredients. For dining reservations, call 407.503.DINE (3463).
